The Tower is a three-part mystery based on the novel Post Mortem, the first book in “The Metropolitan” series by Kate London, a former detective who spent eight years in the Metropolitan Police’s homicide squad.

The intricate drama opens with a radio police report about a critical incident involving two confirmed fatalities, those of a teen girl and a police officer, at Portland Tower. En route to investigate are DS Sarah Collins (Gemma Whelan, Game of Thrones, Killing Eve), Director of Special Investigations (DSI), and her colleague, DC Steve Bradshaw (Jimmy Akingbola, Kate & Koji, Holby City). Upon their arrival at the apartment tower in London’s East End, they find the bloodied bodies of the deceased on the ground.

On the roof is DI Kieran Shaw (Emmett J Scanlan, Peaky Blinders, Gangs of London) with rookie officer PC Lizzie Adama (Tahirah Sharif, Casualty, The Haunting of Bly Manor) and a young boy. Shaw leads the team at the local precinct, and the latter two are witnesses of the horrific event that killed 15-year-old Farah Mehenni and PC Hadley Matthews, one of Shaw’s men — a 27-year veteran of the police force who was Adama’s partner.

Before the evening is over, 5-year-old Ben is back with his mum, Farah’s father begins grieving his loss, and Lizzie goes missing. But why?

To Shaw, details of the incident are cut and dried: Farah was off her head, PC Matthews was simply doing his job, and the end result was a tragedy. To Collins, none of this is that simple — especially when actions and non-actions by Lizzie and Matthews, both at and away from the scene, seem suspicious.

As Collins and Bradshaw continue their investigation, they discover more inconsistencies and other things that don’t add up. Finding out what really happened from Lizzie is critical. But first they have to find Lizzie.

The drama is written and executive produced by Patrick Harbinson (Homeland, 24) and directed by Jim Loach (Save Me, DCI Banks). The cast includes Nick Holder (Grantchester) as PC Matthews, newcomer Lola Elsokari as Farah Mehenni, Karl Davies (Happy Valley) as DCI Tim Bailie, Nabil Elouahabi (Time) as Younes Mehenni, and Michael Karim (Jekyll and Hyde) as PC Johar.

The Tower, a BritBox Original, premieres in North America in its entirety on Wednesday, December 1, exclusively on BritBox.
