The wait for Doc Martin: Season 8 to arrive on public television has been longer than in the past. But it will be over soon, as January 1, 2019, is the release date for the hit Brit comedy-drama to arrive on public TV stations across the country.

Starring Martin Clunes (Manhunt) and Caroline Catz (DCI Banks), Doc Martin is one of the most watched syndicated series on public TV (if not the most watched). Judging by the long station list, its popularity on broadcast television hasn’t waned but grown over eight seasons.

Portwenn continues to be a hotbed of humorous interpersonal dramas in Season 8, not the least of which are the ones between married couple Martin (Clunes) and Louisa (Catz), who are living together again with their son, James Henry, in the season opener.

Other locals aren’t immune from droll misunderstandings, misgivings, and mishaps either, including serial entrepreneurs Bert Large (Ian McNeice, Doctor Who) and his son Al (Joe Absolom, The Level), PC Joe Penhale (John Marquez, In the Club), pharmacist Mrs. Tishell (Selina Cadell, The Amazing Mrs Pritchard), surgery receptionist Morwenna Newcross (Jessica Ransom, Our Zoo), and Martin’s Aunt Ruth (Dame Eileen Atkins, The Crown).

Kevin Doyle (Downton Abbey) and Art Malik (The Woman in White) guest star in Season 8, which also features the return of Caroline Quentin (Men Behaving Badly) as veterinarian Angel Sim and Sigourney Weaver (Alien) as American tourist Beth Traywick. (Woo hoo!)

The premiere date for Doc Martin: Season 8 varies by station, so check your local listings or contact the station that serves your area for broadcast dates and times. If your station isn’t on the list above, contact its Viewer Services department or American Public Television to request the new season.
