Dennis Waterman, the only original cast member of New Tricks to appear in the mystery drama’s eleventh series, has called it quits on the show.

Waterman now joins the ranks of James Bolan, who left New Tricks at the end of Series 9, and Amanda Redman and Alun Armstrong, who followed suit during Series 10.

In an interview with the Mirror, Waterman’s agent, Derek Webster, said, “Dennis misses the old crew … The chemistry between them on the set was remarkable.”

He added that there was no falling out between Waterman and the rest of the current lead cast of Denis Lawson, Nicholas Lyndhurst, and Tamzin Outhwaite, but that “being on the show with new cast members now just isn’t quite the same.”

According to Leanne Klein, CEO of Wall to Wall Productions, which produces New Tricks, “Viewers won’t be saying goodbye to Dennis until Autumn 2015, so there will be plenty of time to enjoy the slightly unorthodox antics of his character Gerry Standing.”

Filming of Series 12’s ten episodes begins this November, and Waterman will appear in two of them when the new season screens next year.
